Black Beatz is one of Nigeria’s rising producers. Black Beatz – real name Arhagba O. Jeffery was born on the 19th of July, in Delta Steel Company Housing Estate, Warri, Delta State. He hails from Ughelli North Local Government Area of Delta State. Growing up as a child, he was always addicted to music. He is the last of Five Children and born to an Urhobo parents from South-southern Nigeria. He grew up listening to some of the biggest names in R&B and Rap from the King of Pop, Michael Jackson, R. Kelly, Akon, 2 Pac, B.I.G., Nas, Jay Z.
Like most, Black Beatz started off his career in the church, joining his church gospel band were he learnt how to play the drums, both the lead and bass guitars, keyboard and a little of the trumpet when he just gained admission into high school. After three years, the church band was disbanded because they refused to play during service due to complaints from them to the church managements that the instruments needed replacement. However, the experience didn’t leave Black Beatz disillusioned, as he decided to play for other churches.
Fast Forward to 2005, Black Beatz met his former high school classmate in the University of Port Harcourt; Tru South, where they became closer than ever due to the fact that they both love music. Tru South influenced the life of Black Beatz musically and Black Beatz decided to learn music production. Black Beatz managed to get his hands on a little pre-production setup – Fruity Loops – suddenly another former high school classmate; Dcent gained admission into the same university and ofcourse Dcent was into music too. They immediately formed a group and began writing, producing and performing their own songs in schools and events. Tru South was always the brain behind a lot of the group’s records and they all remain very close till this day.
Fast Forward to 2011, Black Beatz spent years working on his craft in between formal education – attaining a Bachelors degree in Civil Engineering – construction where he worked for Tianjin Energy Resources Limited and GML Energy Services as a Civil Engineer and also learning to reproduce foreign beats by just listening to the songs which has played a major part in the maturity of his sound. Even with this big achievement he knew deep down what his true calling was – music.
Upon meeting Komtru, an artiste hailing from Warri City the two just clicked and began working on records together and would soon become Black’s long term partner in his musical career. Since then he’s gone on to produce records for some acts such as Tru South (Leader of BLW Rap Nation), Tentik, Th3 Gh0st, Kiki, and the list continues to grow as we speak.
Being the creative soul that he is, Black Beatz wasn’t satisfied with only working on his home turf, but wanted to spread his wings internationally. In January, 2016 he flew to Lagos which is the centre of Entertainment in Nigeria. Through good friends and artists: Tru South, Sugarboy, Tentik, Komtru, Geeii and K-Kapture, Black Beatz was able to spark relationships with artists such as Jay Bagz, Yung6ix, Kiss Daniels, – of which he is currently planning to work on records with them.
Even with all his achievements to date, who knows what the future holds for this young producer.
